A new closeness in a time of retreat

Common Ground marks the beginning of a new phase for Lost Frequency Array. A changed approach to recording places the voice closer to the microphone, giving the songs greater authenticity, intimacy and density. At the same time, the arrangements become more atmospheric and open, allowing quiet details and emotional spaces to move to the foreground.

The album emerged during the coronavirus pandemic, when everyday life changed and isolation encouraged a retreat into the inner world. That period became exceptionally productive: around fifty new songs were written, of which Common Ground presents only a small selection. The deluxe edition on Bandcamp offers the complete body of work from this creative phase.

The lyrics were created through a stream-of-consciousness process. Rather than following linear narratives, they unfold as associative snapshots whose meaning emerges through moods, recurring images and emotional contrasts. Distance, identity and the desire for inner change form their central concerns.

Inner spaces take the place of outward action. Floating, rising, leaving and fading become images of dissolution and movement, while sky, rain and open fields mirror emotional states. Memory, speechlessness and emotional coldness stand beside the possibility of warmth, farewell and renewal.

Repetition gives the language a hypnotic quality and places the writing between dream pop, ambient poetry and experimental lyricism. The emphasis is not on arriving at a solution but on the process of searching itself: a passage between past and future, intimacy and isolation, gravity and weightlessness.
